At a first glance, cheerleading and dance may seem more of an art than a sport. They say this because there is dancing and energy then more athleticism, but actually cheer and dance actually require strength, precision, and competition. The debate about dance and cheer being actually a sport? Some people have different opinions. To answer this question let’s look at some opinions from people who dance and cheer.
“ I dance because it’s fun and I get to make friends,” 8th grade dancer Madi Rives said.
“ I cheer because it’s fun and I love being with my friends cheering beside me,” 7th grade cheerleader Avery Dyson said.
“I cheer and dance because I love meeting new people and I love showing my school’s spirit,” 8th grader cheerleader and dancer Paige Coulter said.
“ I dance because it makes me happy and I’ve been doing it my whole life, ” 7th grade dancer Chanelle Griswold said.
What is the hardest challenge in cheer and dance?
“ The hardest challenge in dance is learning all the new dances and competing!” Rives said.
“ The hardest challenge in cheer is learning all the stunts and tumbling!” Dyson said.
“ The hardest challenge in dance is getting all the dances right and on time,” Griswold said.
“The hardest challenge in cheer and dance is learning the dances and doing pep rallies,” Coulter said.
Do you think cheer and dance is a sport and why?
“ Cheer and dance is a sport because it has very hard as any other sports,” Rives said.
“ Yes, cheer and dance is a sport because we put in a lot of hard work,” Dyson said.
“ Cheer and dance is a sport because there is a lot of mental, physical and emotional health in cheer and dance,” Coulter said.
“ Yes, cheer and dance is a sport because it takes a lot of strength and energy to be in cheer and dance,” Griswold said.
While cheer and dance often blur the lines between it being a sport or not. The question still remains to many other people asking and wondering. But both activities have skill and physical endurance, hard training, and coordination. Overall dance and cheer is a sport because of the physical, mental, and emotional training to get it all right.
