Sitting in Mr. Lopez’s room, at 12:35 on Tuesdays and Thursdays, 8th graders pile in to hear the word about Jesus. “Student Body of Christ meet in Mr. Lopez’s room,” 8th grade group leader Brylan Olea said. As 8th graders throw the rest of their crumpled lunch trash away they start making their way to the 8th grade hallway.
“It’s a chance to talk about things you wouldn’t really be able to talk about at school. Its a chance to know that other people are there for you,” Olea said.
Eighth graders Edward White and Brylan Olea start each meeting with a Bible verse.
” It’s a way I can connect with God when I feel a little distant,” Teagan Olea said.
Each prayer group contains volunteers who lead the meetings each week. They take group prayers to pray over things and people and they also take silent prayer where the students would pray to themselves and the struggles they are going through.
“We really just kinda want to reach out the everyone. Expand it as far as we can. And lead people to Christ,” Olea said.
The prayer group is a thirteen minute long season that welcomes anyone and everyone. The prayer group has created a safe space for the student body and has impacted many to get closer and stronger in their faith.
“I feel like everyone has a Jesus glow to them in that room and you can feel his presence whenever I step into the room,” Avery Sherman said.
