Over time people have become more and more dependent on technology, but has school been a good use case for it?
Students and teachers both find teaching with technology to be more convenient and faster, but it could become detrimental when used incorrectly or when users are unfamiliar with the software.
“Tech is a great tool to use, but needs some constraints,” 7th grade science teacher Mrs.Perry said.
Students have the similar opinions when it comes to technology.
“I think it’s good but with restraints,” 8th grader Daniel Salazar said.
AI was another great tool for teachers.
“I use it to help grade papers and help make lesson plans,” Perry said.
However outside of very certain situations, AI is not helpful to students because it only answers questions and doesn’t go through the learning process.
School normally is about 8 – 9 hours, if students used tech in all of their classes then that is a lot of screens and possibly eye strain. Eye strain in large amounts can cause headaches and difficulty focusing causing another detriment to learning.
“I like tech because I like programming and it passes time by,” Preston Stinson said.
However even with those problems, tech is still a good tool to use. It has so many resources to use when learning, and if you are unsure about something you can have an answer immediately rather than having to rely on people who could be wrong / biased, there could still be people on the internet who could be wrong but you can see if their credible or biased and find a reliable source instead of having to just trust people are correct.
Overall, teachers and students alike feel it is a positive thing in schools, however some fell it is a distraction.
“Technology is a hindrance to education because students spend more time off task than learning,” assistant principal, Mrs. Warren said.
