Does homework have any meaningful impact on education? It is a largely common opinion that homework is bad, but does it even actually do anything or is it used just as busy work?
Homework is widely disputed on how helpful it is.
“I think it helps me because I know what could be on tests,” 8th grader Tristan Fluit said.
This alludes to the fact that It can help some students when they could not understand the material.
“It helps me a lot when I get behind, “ 8th grader Rosie Rangel said.
This also can introduce the possibility that it can help students when they get behind or when they might not understand the material as well as others.
“Homework does not help me very much because I already know the material and it is just extra work for me,” 8th grader Addy Lotter said.
This shows that sometimes when students understand the material they don’t need homework and it turns into busy work.
Homework should take one hour but it normally takes 30 minutes to another hour extra to do it. It should be based on grades or absences. If students are failing or absent for a while then they should get homework.
