Dress codes are supposed to be fair and help everyone focus, but they don’t always feel that way, especially for girls. As an 8th grade girl, I’ve noticed that girls get dress coded way more than boys, usually for things like tank tops or shorts. They say it’s too distracting, but that doesn’t really make sense. If distraction is the problem, then why isn’t everyone treated the same? For example, boys don’t really get in trouble for things like showing their underwear under their shorts, which people definitely notice too. It feels like girls are the only ones being called out for what they wear. Also, it feels like girls are being blamed for other people getting distracted, which isn’t fair. Everyone should be responsible for themselves and focus. The dress code should apply the same to everyone, not just girls. School should be about learning, not stressing over getting dress coded for something small.
