Dyslexia Awareness Month

Children with dyslexia face a variety of challenges, including difficulties with reading, writing, and multitasking across various school subjects.  They process information differently and often struggle to manage the work from multiple classes.  Fortunately, our school provides a dedicated dyslexia specialist for 6th through 8th graders.  Her name is Mrs. Tovar, and she plays a positive role in the lives of these students, providing essential support.

Mrs. Tovar is a dyslexia teacher who helps kids improve how they write, read, and learn.  Some children learn differently from others and require assistance with remembering things.

“I think flashcards are what make the biggest difference,”  Mrs. Tovar said. “We create them with the word for an object, a picture.” 

She loves her job very much, and her helping out her students just proves how much she really does care.

Many kids struggle with reading, writing, and spelling, or even with sounding out individual words.  This is important because dyslexia teachers help with this by breaking down concepts and providing clear instructions, both written and verbal.

“We sound each word out to help students easily memorize words,” Tovar said.

 Furthermore, Mrs. Tovar discusses how she assists her students in various ways to teach them simpler methods for learning.  This demonstrates how Mrs. Tovar genuinely cares about her students.
